Your little one gets called in, and they meet the dentist.

A pediatric dentist is typically super-friendly, making your child feel at ease. They sit in this cool chair that goes up and down, and there may be a TV on the ceiling playing cartoons. Like other physicians, dentists wear a special coat. It helps keep yucky germs away from other people’s clothes.

They may show up with a tool that uses water and air to squirt away any leftover food stuck in their teeth. In many cases, they use a tiny mirror to see teeth in every nook and cranny. There’s even a special counter to track how many teeth your child has. The dentist gently wiggles each tooth to see if they’re strong and healthy.

They also wear a mask to stop the spread of germs. By the way, kids usually have 10 teeth on the top and 10 on the bottom, for a total of 20. The dentist also checks the tongue and cheeks to ensure everything looks great. Sometimes, they may take pictures of the teeth. A tiny camera goes into the mouth for quick snaps.
